Jellyswarm was an incredible project to be a part of. Installed over a period of 72 hours in the Pacific Canada Pavilion Gallery at Vancouver Aquarium, the artwork is comprised of 94 origami jellyfish folded by Vancouver artist, Joseph Wu.
As if 94 origami jellyfish were not already impressive enough, each jellyfish contains an LED module that illuminates its host. The jellyfish are programmed to interact with each other and the whole display is also linked to a touchscreen interface that allows aquarium visitors to control the movement of light across the whole swarm.
Given that I was part of the installation team, I was present on the final morning at 6am when the installation was switched on for the first time. The initial testing and abundance of hoists and ladders gave me the opportunity to grab some images that will be hard to replicate. The final images ended up being used by multiple clients; and seeing how the project was received worldwide was a highpoint of the past year.
